Rodriguez moved to Real Madrid from Monaco in a mega £71million deal in the summer of 2014, after an impressive World Cup tournament with his country.

The 48-time capped Colombia star has appeared in 78 encounters for the Spanish giants during his two-year stay and scored 25 goals.

However, he was often a substitute under Zinedine Zidane in the second half of last season and was restricted to an appearance from the bench in Madrid’s recent Super Cup match, as he replaced Mateo Kovacic after 73 minutes.

Rodriguez still has four years left on his current deal at the Bernabeu, but it has become apparent that he is surplus to requirements with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric also competing for spaces in the starting eleven.

Arsenal suffered a 4-3 loss against Liverpool in their league opener and they will be keen to ensure they don’t suffer anymore slip ups with the strength of the Gunners rivals in the new campaign dramatically increased.

In other Arsenal transfer news, the Gunners are among the clubs who have dispatched scouts to assess Nottingham Forest winger Oliver Burke.
