By Dominic Toner

Arsenal are interested in Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel, according to a report.

The Mail claim that Arsene Wenger has sent his scouts to watch the forward play three times already this season for the Italian club.

It is said that he has also been watched by Premier League rivals Liverpool.

The report details that Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Swansea were also targeting the forward earlier in the year.

The striker is still under contract at Sassuolo until 2020 and has never played in English football before.

Defrel, 25, has been in phenomenal form at the start of the season and scored seven goals in just nine appearances across all competitions.

The Frenchman scored the winner against Udinese in Serie A on Sunday and is currently in the form of his life.

He moved to Sassuolo in 2015 and has returned a moderate 14 goals in 44 appearances.

Defrel scored 16 goals in 110 appearances for his former club Cesena and has continued his development in recent times.

Arsenal did sign a striker in the summer transfer window as Lucas Perez moved to the Emirates from Deportivo.

Wenger has opted to use Alexis Sanchez as his main attacker at the beginning of the season and he also has Olivier Giroud as a senior option.

In other Arsenal transfer news, a French striker has revealed that he rejected offers from the club and Everton.
