Arsenal have slapped a £25million price tag on central defender Calum Chambers, according to a report.
The Guardian claims that the North London club are holding discussions with fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace over a potential summer deal for the 22-year-old.
The newspaper reports that the Gunners value the centre-back at £25million but both clubs are said to be confident that an agreement can be reached shortly whether it be a permanent or a loan deal.
This follows up from the story in the Telegraph which reported that Arsenal had rejected a £16million offer from Crystal Palace to secure the signature of the English defender.
The report claims that Chambers is eager to ply his trade at Selhurst Park next season after being told that he is not guaranteed first-team football at Arsenal.
The youngster was sent out on loan to Middlesborough last season where he became a regular starter for the team.
The defender made 25 Premier League appearances last season where he helped Middlesborough secure seven clean sheets and he also contributed with two goals.
Chambers was unable to prevent Middlesborough from relegation but he certainly impressed with his performances in defence.
The youngster currently has three years remaining on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Football Insider verdict
Arsenal seriously need to reconsider their asking price for Calum Chambers. The defender has reportedly already been informed that he will not be a first-team regular next season and Crystal Palace have presented them with a fantastic offer which has been turned away. £25million is a lot of money for a player who has very little experience playing in the Premier League and if the club wants to end this situation on amicable terms, they have to find a way to allow Chambers to leave sooner rather than later. Chambers proved in this summer’s Under-21 European Championships that he can deliver when given the chance to play 90 minutes on a regular basis and he could potentially excel at Palace in the same way Mamadou Sakho did last season.
