Arsenal tipped to beat West Ham to Johnstone signing after Sky update - Campbell

Arsenal will blow West Ham out of the water to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone this summer.

That is the view of former Gunners and Albion striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the race to sign the 28-year-old.

Johnstone has less than 12 months left on his contract at The Hawthorns and Baggies boss Valerien Ismael has given him the green light to leave.

According to Sky Sports (15th July), the Hammers have had a bid of £6million rejected by West Brom for the England international.

The Championship club are holding out for a fee of £10million for their number one.

The Athletic‘s David Ornstein revealed on July 14th that Johnstone is also being targeted by Arsenal.

When asked for his thoughts ob the latest, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “The £6m bid is some serious low-balling from West Ham.

“They are testing the water to see if West Brom are desperate.

“You keep the £6million West Ham. Arsenal will come in with the £10million, no messing around.

“West Brom want to move and shake so they new manager can do some more business. As a football club you want to move a few of the big earners on and I think Johnstone will be towards the top end.

“I’d have been surprised if anyone got Johnstone for as little as £6million, that is very low for a player of his ability.”
