Kevin Campbell has tipped Folarin Balogun to make a “big impact” on the Arsenal first team next season after he penned a new long-term contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners forward claimed the 19-year-old will take the place of Eddie Nketiah, 21, in the squad for the 2021-22 campaign.
Arsenal confirmed on Monday that the centre-forward had put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the Emirates after months of speculation around his future.
A product of the club’s esteemed academy, Balogun has made five appearances for the Gunners since his debut against Dundalk in October of last year.
He has featured exclusively as a substitute for Mikel Arteta’s side so far but has still managed to contribute two goals and one assist.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his initial thoughts on the contract announcement, Campbell said: “It’s massive, just superb news.
“I think next season he will have a big impact on the first team.
“There is going to be some change this summer and I think certain players will not be at the club, Nketiah being one.
“He gets the occasional game but really, that should be Balogun now and it will be next season. Signing Balogun down to a new long-term deal probably means the writing is on the wall for Eddie now.
“Balogun has got a big future ahead of him and I’m so glad it will be with Arsenal.”
