Arsenal tipped to sign Martial from Man United after Sky update - pundit

Noel Whelan has tipped Manchester United forward Anthony Martial to replace Alexandre Lacazette at Arsenal.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old can “catch fire” by leaving Old Trafford for pastures new.

As per Sky Sports on Tuesday (28 December), Sevilla have had a loan bid for Martial rejected after the France international asked to leave Old Trafford next month.

The report claims Man United want the striker’s wages paid in full as well as a loan fee in order to strike a deal in the winter window.

Whelan insisted the January capture of Martial would be a shrewd move for Premier League clubs.

“I think he’s got the talent to stay in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I will always go back to attitude and character before talent, however, when assessing a player. That’s the first box you’ve got to tick.

“There’s questions that need answering about Martial. Can he settle into a side? Can he bring a positive attitude to a new side?

“You’re seeing someone who just wants to play football but hasn’t been given that opportunity at all over the past few seasons.

“It’s been a turbulent time for Man United as well, and he’s been there throughout that time. I think he just needs that move away in order to catch fire again – let’s not forget, he’s still very young.

“Signing him would be a shrewd move for somebody in the Premier League – maybe Arsenal would benefit from having him – he reminds me a lot of Lacazette.”

Arsenal striker Lacazette is out of contract at the end of this season.

Martial has played just 359 minutes of football this term.
