Arsenal tipped to terminate Aubameyang contract after news in last 48 hours - pundit
Arsenal will terminate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract next year even if they have to “bite the bullet” and pay him off.
That is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 32-year-old’s future at the Emirates.
Aubameyang was stripped of the Gunners captaincy last week after returning late from an authorised trip abroad.
The centre-forward has not featured for Mikel Arteta’s side since and was omitted from the squad that won at Leeds United last Saturday.
As quoted by Football.London (17 December), Arteta refused to be drawn on whether Aubameyang had a future at the club when quizzed at the pre-match press conference.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the latest, Phillips said: “I’d get rid.

“This is not the first time something like this has happened.
“He has had a poor season. He is the captain and he should be leading by example and he hasn’t. It is really poor from his point of view.
“At his age, it will be tough to get rid of him. Nobody is going to pay what he is on at Arsenal. I can see it being another case where Arsenal need to bite the bullet and give him a pay off. They may have to take this one on the chin.
“Sometimes you have to set examples. Arteta has done that by stripping him of the captaincy.
“For me, that only leads to one thing and that’s Aubameyang leaving at the end of the season.”
