Liverpool cited as Arsenal told to complete forward signing - expert

Kevin Campbell has urged Arsenal to sign “a versatile forward” before the transfer window shuts.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said Liverpool and Man City “have got it right” by having “interchangeable” attackers in their squad.

Arsenal have made five signings so far this summer – Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Matt Turner all arriving on long-term deals.

However, speaking to club media on Saturday (30 July), Mikel Arteta said the club hope to do make further additions to their squad before the end of the window.

The Gunners travel to Crystal Palace on Friday for the opening game of the Premier League season.

When asked by Football Insider where the London club needs to strengthen his side prior to the window closing, Campbell said: “We need another forward.

“I would sign a versatile forward who can play across the front line.

“This is where Liverpool and Man City have got it right in my opinion. They have interchangeable pieces up top.

“If [Mohamed] Salah, [Luis] Diaz and [Darwin] Nunez don’t play, you have [Diogo] Jota, [Roberto] Firmino and Harvey Elliott. There is interchangeable pieces.

“They have those options even after [Sadio] Mane has gone.”

Mikel Arteta currently has Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Buyako Saka to choose from in attack.

Jesus, Martinelli and Saka are expected to start at Selhurst Park this weekend.

In other news, an Arsenal expert has claimed this is when Bukayo Saka could leave for a Champions League club.
