Arsenal told to U-turn on Willock and loan to Newcastle after 'incredible' Athletic update - pundit
Kevin Campbell insists Arsenal should not sell Joe Willock this summer with a loan deal more appropriate.
The Gunners icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted after a major update on the midfielder’s future.
On Sunday (8th August), The Athletic reported Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Willock for around £20million.
However, personal terms have yet to be agreed.
Willock, 21, spent the second half of last season on loan at St James’ Park and found a new lease of life.
He scored eight goals in 14 games for the Magpies and this site revealed in April how Willock had expressed a desire to return to the North East.

The midfielder took part in Arsenal’s pre-season as Newcastle were made to wait on Mikel Arteta’s decision.
Campbell insists Arsenal should only let Willock go out on loan as he still has plenty of room to develop into a top talent.
“Arsenal aren’t blessed with a lot of midfielders,” Campbell told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“Especially midfielders who can put the ball away. Willock had an incredible purple patch last season.
“He scored last Sunday [v Chelsea] but the goal wasn’t given. He showed again how he has that knack for arriving late into the box.
“I think they need him but if it wasn’t to happen maybe a loan is the best move.
“He’s only young, if he went on loan for a season and came back he’ll be 22 and that’s a great age.”
Willock’s performances in May won him the Premier League Player of the Month award.
He is set to become Newcastle’s first signing of the summer.
