Arsenal told Newcastle will accept '£80m' Bruno Guimaraes offer

Published on

Arsenal will have to offer upwards of £80million to prise Bruno Guimaraes away from Newcastle United this summer.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Newcastle are likely to reject anything lower.

Eddie Howe has already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, with Guimaraes next on the list of potential departures at St James' Park.

Mikel Arteta's side have been heavily linked with a move for the Brazil international, and it is understood that the Gunners are set to offer £60m to test the waters.

Newcastle fans have already laughed that figure off, especially after Tottenham Hotspur spent £100m on Tonali, but Guimaraes is keen to leave.

Those behind the scenes at St James' Park will be desperate to avoid a repeat of Alexander Isak's transfer saga, which may open the door for a cheaper deal for Guimaraes.

Newcastle United to 'hold out for more' in Bruno Guimaraes deal

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that £80m should be enough to seal the midfielder's signature, even if Newcastle don't want to let him go.

"Part of it is going to depend on how desperate they are to sell, right? If they don't want to sell him genuinely and don't need to sell him genuinely, they can hold out a little bit more," he said.

"He is nearly 29, so that's a cap on his value, but he seems to be well-bedded into an Arsenal move.

"So I think, realistically, £75m to £80m. If they could get £80m in this market, that feels like the right sort of level, something that they'd have to accept.

"I don't think £60m is a runner. I think you're looking at between £75m and £80m. I also think that Newcastle should try and find a way to keep him."

What's the latest on Guimaraes' future?

It emerged very quickly that Guimaraes wanted to join the Gunners, with time running out for the 29-year-old to earn a big-money move in his career.

That is likely why it has been reported that Newcastle's No.39 has already agreed personal terms with the North London outfit.

While this moves him no closer to actually joining the likes of Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze in the centre of midfield, it sends a message to his current owners.

It appears for all the world that Guimaraes will not be wearing a Newcastle shirt next season, but it is down to the Magpies how much they hold out for this summer.
