Arsenal will have new Viktor Gyokeres concerns after '20%' Sweden display

Viktor Gyokeres has split opinions at the Emirates Stadium ever since his £63.5m move to Arsenal in the summer of 2025.

The 28-year-old netted 21 goals during his first season in England, yet the centre-forward produced far too many subpar performances.

Gyokeres often disappeared in big moments, with many supporters rejoicing when Kai Havertz returned from his long-term injury in North London.

It's been a strange 2026-27 campaign for the striker so far, starting no Premier League games and failing to find the back of the net in all competitions.

During the international break, though, he has netted against both Romania and Poland, helping Sweden to two consecutive victories.

Very few have been fooled by his efforts in front of goal, though, with his performance on Monday, 28 September, raising the alarm bells.

Other than his goal, Gyokeres only completed 71 per cent of his passes and 20 per cent of his dribbles, created one chance and made no tackles [FotMob].

He also lost 62 per cent of his ground duels and 60 per cent of his aerial duels, while also only registering a 50 per cent shot accuracy.

FotbollSkanalen were unimpressed, to say the least, writing: "Ran and stressed the Polish defence, but did not get into any position and was quite invisible in the first half.

"Raised himself properly in the second half and made several nice runs with the ball, which gave the national team the opportunity to move up."

That is the perfect summary, sadly. He shows up in small bursts, but for the most part, supporters are left frustrated by his "invisible" displays.

Who could be signed to replace the Arsenal star?

With Havertz injured again during the international break, Mikel Arteta may have no choice but to start Gyokeres once the season resumes.

But there are clearly issues with the 28-year-old, and the Gunners may begin targeting replacements ahead of the January transfer window.

Football Insider understands that contact has already been made with Erling Haaland's representatives after news of Manchester City's 114 charges.

In the final third, Brentford's Kevin Schade is also of interest, but he wouldn't be a direct replacement.

Another move could be made for Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez, but that seems highly unlikely now.
