Bruno Guimaraes and another 'very clever' Arsenal deal named signings of the summer

Arsenal's deals for Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis are among the best signings by Premier League clubs this summer.

That is the opinion of experienced former Aston Villa, Tottenham and Everton scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The Gunners brought in both players along with Ezri Konsa, as they looked to bolster Mikel Arteta's Premier League title-winning squad.

Tzolis was a deal wrapped up with Club Brugge earlier in the window for around £35million, while the hunt to sign Guimaraes from Newcastle United took longer before it was eventually sealed for £75m.

But it has not been all good news for Arsenal, who have failed to bring in a top-level left-winger and left themselves short after several attempted moves for the likes of Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez.

Eberechi Eze will be asked to support Tzolis until January, when it is hoped that a more permanent solution will be found.

'Morgan Rogers and Emi Martinez could be good deals'

There have been a number of high-profile deals in the Premier League this summer, with yet another spending record broken after £506.5m worth of deals went through on deadline day.

Among them was Enzo Fernandez's joint-record £125m move to Manchester City, who had already spent £202m to bring in both Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Morgan Rogers' £117m move to Chelsea was another highlight, as well as Sandro Tonali's £100m switch to Tottenham and Bradley Barcola's £123m Liverpool arrival. The best transfers are usually not about the biggest fee, however.

"I think for me, the boy who went from Newcastle to Arsenal [Guimaraes], that was a good bit of business," King told Football Insider when asked about the best signings this summer.

"Because I liked him at Newcastle. I think Arsenal have been very clever, to be honest. The boy from Greece [Tzolis] who signed from Club Brugge. I mean, nobody had really heard of him, had they? He's certainly started the season well. He's started it very well because it's opened the door for Martinelli to leave the club as such."

He continued: "Rogers and [Emi] Martinez could become good deals for Chelsea. I'm sure about Tonali, you know, it'd be interesting to see how he goes for that kind of money, £100m. [Nico] Gonzalez looked a far better player than he did on Saturday, didn't he?"

Who did the media say is the best signing?

The Athletic have ranked all 155 Premier League signings this summer and have named Martinez's £7.5m move to Chelsea as the best.

Guimaraes sits second on their list, while Mamadou Sangare to Brentford and Anderson to Man City also feature in the top four.

The top five is made up by Barcola, while despite King's verdict, Tzolis does not feature until number 63.

The Greece international still has much to prove, but could easily be considered a bargain by the end of the season.
