Bruno Guimaraes: Brazilian media spot on about Arsenal star's display vs Australia

Arsenal midfielder Bruno Guimaraes delivered a "masterful" performance as Brazil beat Australia 4-2 on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old scored his nation's third goal, after Vanderson and Raphinha had put Carlo Ancelotti's team on level terms.

Vinicius Junior's late penalty capped off the scoring as Brazil marked their first win since the World Cup round of 32 against Japan.

Guimaraes has enjoyed an up and down start to the season following his £75million summer move from Newcastle United to Arsenal.

The Brazilian has suffered from early battles with injury, but returned with a bang when he netted the winner against familiar rival Sunderland earlier this month.

The midfielder may well be rested for Saturday's game against India, and will have over a week to recover before his return to action for Arsenal.

There is little doubting Guimaraes' quality and there is a feeling that once he fully adapts at Arsenal, he will form a formidable midfield duo with Declan Rice.

The 28-year-old's ability was on full show on Tuesday, with his goal coming from a great late run into the penalty box.

He was dangerous throughout, creating a chance, putting three balls into the box and drawing three fouls.

Guimaraes looked to be enjoying his football, completing a successful dribble and finding the mark with four of his five attempted long balls.

Defensively he was sound, too. He made a tackle and three recoveries, winning five duels on the night.

Brazilian outlet Noataque gave him a 7.5 and wrote that he was "Brazil's best player in the game".

"He participated more in the build-up play and put Vini Jr. in front of goal, but the striker didn't take advantage," they continued. "He also provided the assist for Danilo to win the penalty in the first half. In the second half, he had more freedom to move up the field and scored the team's third goal of the match.

"A masterful performance from the midfielder, who was one of Brazil's best players in the World Cup."

GZH shared a similar opinion, awarding Guimaraes with a 6.5 and describing him as "the team's cornerstone".

Guimaraes opens up on Arsenal start

The Arsenal move was a perfect one for Guimaraes, because it offered the chance to win titles in the final years of his career.

While his time at Newcastle was highly rewarding and respected, the team looked to be moving backwards having only won the Carabao Cup.

In asking to leave, Guimaraes gave up his reputation at St James' Park in the eyes of many fans, but he was willing to do that for a chance to win.

"I just arrived at Arsenal, so I'm very focused. I want to win a championship there," he said last week.

"I want to play, I want to make my mark with this new shirt. But ultimately, the future belongs to God."
