Ex-PGMOL chief: Wilson Isidor should be punished for 'unsporting behaviour' vs Arsenal

Wilson Isidor should have been punished for "unsporting behaviour" during Sunderland's defeat to Arsenal at the Stadium of Light.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that the striker could have seriously injured Bruno Guimaraes.

Mikel Arteta's claimed all three points on Saturday, 12 September, but the game was far from simple for the reigning Premier League champions.

The Black Cats put up a valliant fight at home, but with Enzo Le Fee missing from the penalty spot, Arsenal showed their fighting spirit in the second half.

Guimaraes netted the opener before Bukayo Saka fired home a 97th minute penalty, having been brought down by Reinildo late on.

However, it was the incident involving Isidor and the Gunners' No.39 that stole the headlines, as the former attempted to pick up his opposition, who had gone down with an injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett voiced his disappointment at the footage, stating that players must leave this type of incident to the referees.

"This player is effectively, publicly by his actions, saying that his opponent has cheated because he's lifting him off the ground," he said.

"That player could well have sustained a serious injury. Who knows, he could have impacted on the injury of that individual had he truly been injured.

"Therefore for me, I think this is an act of unsporting behaviour. He should have received a yellow card. We've got to get into a space where players must recognise that the law now has taken action in terms of feigning injury.

And that is, if a player requires treatment, then he's going to go off, and he's going to serve a minimum of one minute off the field of play.

"That could be extended to several minutes until the ball goes out of play. So for me, I think this player is out of order."

Mikel Arteta finally faces punishment for sideline antics

Against Chelsea, Arteta stole the spotlight by coming way out of his technical area, even blocking the fourth official's view, but not being punished.

This has been a long-standing frustration for supporters all across the Premier League, and the Spaniard finally did enough to be sanctioned.

In the 39th minute, John Brooks had no other option but to show a yellow card to the manager, who had strayed into Le Bris' technical area.

Arteta behaved himself for the most part for the remainder of the game, and was allowed to see out the 90 minutes at the Stadium of Light.
