Leandro Trossard goes 'crazy' as Belgian media react to Arsenal star's display vs Senegal
Arsenal's Leandro Trossard was involved in some incredible World Cup scenes as Belgium completed the turnaround against Senegal.
Sunderland star Habib Diarra and Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr appeared to have sent Rudi Garcia's side packing from the tournament on Wednesday, 1 July.
That was until Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans found the back of the net in the closing stages to force extra time, with the latter netting a buzzer-beating penalty to win it all.
Trossard played 109 minutes against the African giants before being replaced by Amadou Onana, and it was a total whirlwind for the winger.
From needing to be separated from Tielemans at a hydration break to assisting the Aston Villa man for the equaliser, it was quite a ride at the Seattle Stadium.
The Red Devils must now face USA in the round of 16, and the Gunners' No.19 will be hoping to have just as much of an impact in that game.
Leandro Trossard's emotions bubble over in Belgium win
Arsenal supporters would have been watching anxiously to see the outcome of Trossard's game, with a number of other stars also performing well.
Reacting to the performance, HLN awarded the winger a 6 out of 10 rating, writing: "In a collective that turned square, he held his own for a long time. Went crazy at the hydration break in the second half and gave captain Tielemans a push.
"A bridge too far. To then give the cross for Tielemans' 2-2. Went to the side with some problems with the calf."
Nieuwsblad were more generous with a 7 out of 10 rating, writing: "Turned out to be a haven of peace in difficult times – chapeau. Sent the cross for the 2-2. Was already among the better before the turnaround."
It became clear that, when Belgium were behind, Trossard was one of the only players showing an ounce of passion and determination, even if other players needed to get involved.
What's the latest on Trossard's Arsenal future?
Despite playing a total of 50 games for the Gunners in 2025-26, it feels as though the winger is slowly being edged down the pecking order.
With eight goals and 10 assists, however, he continued to pop up in vital moments, but at 31 years of age, Arsenal are running out of time to cash in.
Football Insider understands that Trossard is open to joining Villa this summer, with Arteta's side ready to allow his exit.
The veteran is unlikely to have a lack of suitors ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, but the Gunners might be reconsidering their stance during the 2026 World Cup.
