Aaron Ramsdale still has a soft spot for Arsenal after taking to social media after their Champions League final defeat to PSG.

The goalkeeper had a spell in north London between 2021 and 2024, and was the number one under Mikel Arteta before David Raya joined the club.

Raya was unable to prevent Arsenal's penalty shootout defeat to PSG, despite saving Nuno Mendes' effort from 12 yards.

Eberechi Eze and Gabriel both missed from the spot, as Arsenal could not hold onto the one-goal lead given to them by Kai Havertz in the first half.

Arsenal's Premier League title triumph still represents a successful season for the club, but their wait for a first ever Champions League trophy continues.

Aaron Ramsdale sends 'proud' message to Arsenal duo

After Eze and Gabriel both failed to convert their penalties, Ramsdale took to his Instagram story to share a supportive message to the pair.

Underneath an image of Eze and Gabriel smiling whilst holding onto the Premier League title, Ramsdale said he was "devastated" to see them miss in the shootout.

Ramsdale said he was "proud" of them both for stepping up to take a penalty, with the likes of Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard off the pitch.

Gabriel Jesus and Mikel Merino, who both probably would have taken penalties, were also unused substitutes in the final.

Aaron Ramsdale has decision to make this summer

Ramsdale's career has stalled since the 28-year-old left Arsenal, with the goalkeeper having spent the season on loan at Newcastle.

Having made only 11 Premier League starts during his loan spell at Newcastle, Ramsdale is not expected to be signed on a permanent deal.

Sources told Football Insider that Ramsdale is likely to return to Southampton, with Newcastle set to sign a new goalkeeper.

Southampton's continued stay in the Championship next season means Ramsdale's future remains uncertain at St Mary's, and he may look to find another club in the Premier League this summer.
