Stefan Borson suggests who earns most out of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard

Arsenal will not be regretting their decision to make Bukayo Saka their highest-paid player despite his injury issues.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the England international is only overplayed because of his importance.

Saka lasted just 10 minutes of the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, 21 October.

After going down with a muscle injury, he was replaced by Eberechi Eze, who scored the opener at the Allianz Arena just 15 minutes later.

It is not yet understood how serious the new injury setback is, with Mikel Arteta admitting that the current signs are "not good" ahead of another MRI scan.

Saka has missed a total of 40 games for club and country across the last two campaigns, and now he's likely to spend another period on the sidelines.

'Bukayo Saka is a critical player, he deserves his contract'

He put pen to paper on a four-year deal back in February, extending his contract until the summer of 2030, and is believed to be on £300,000-a-week.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that, despite another major setback, Arsenal will have no regrets over handing him big terms.

"When you get to the top of the game, the difference between the top five earners will not be that dramatic at Arsenal," he said.

"So he may be slightly higher than, I don't know, an [Martin] Odegaard or a [Declan] Rice, but it won't be very much higher.

"He's a critical player, and he's young. So no, I don't think so [they won't regret the terms]. He's going to miss games. He's very often just totally overplayed because when he's fit, he's generally an automatic pick.

"I don't think it means anything in terms of whether Arsenal should be questioning the contract they gave to Saka at all."

Mikel Arteta must now unleash Max Dowman

Saka is just the latest injury blow, joining William Saliba, Piero Hincapie and Christos Tzolis on the sidelines at the Emirates Stadium.

While losing the 25-year-old winger to injury would be a huge disappointment, it does open the door for Max Dowman to shine.

The 16-year-old only has nine minutes of Premier League football so far this term, with his real opportunities coming in the Carabao Cup.

With the right-wing spot now available, supporters will be hoping for the academy graduate to grab a lot more time in the spotlight this season.
