Arsenal are "doing everything they can" to tie club captain Martin Odegaard down to a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gunners are pushing to extend the midfielder's stay at the Emirates Stadium, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2028.

The North London outfit remain "very happy" with Odegaard's contribution, while the player himself is also happy at the club.

Sources say that no "bumps in the road" are expected in terms of the contract negotiations.

The 27-year-old endured an injury hit season last term, but has started all six Premier League games so far in 2026-27, and already has two goals to his name.

He is one of the first names on the teamsheet for Mikel Arteta, and Arsenal are working hard to protect his value long-term.

Martin Odegaard in line for hugely lucrative deal

Odegaard has been a central figure in Arsenal's midfield since joining them back in 2021, and his influence has only continued to grow.

The Norway international now has over 180 Premier League appearances under his belt, and is also vastly experienced at European level.

Odegaard has turned out over 30 times in the Champions League, and will be hoping to lead his team to glory in that competition after losing the final on penalties last season.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Arsenal have set aside "huge" sums of cash to tie down some of their key players.

Odegaard is one of those who is in line to receive a hugely lucrative deal, as he looks set to be rewarded for his influence and importance to the team.

Sources: Arsenal make Max Dowman transfer plan amid Rangers and Celtic race

Old Firm duo racing for Max Dowman

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Arsenal are yet to make a decision over Max Dowman's future in January, with both Rangers and Celtic keen to sign him on loan.

The 16-year-old prodigy turns 17 at the end of December, and could potentially be sent out to gain regular first-team experience in the second half of the campaign.

The Old Firm duo are both keen to sign Dowman, but it remains to be seen whether Arteta would prefer to keep him around as injury cover.

Tottenham starlet Mikey Moore enjoyed a hugely successful stint with Rangers last term, and he may have set the blueprint for Arsenal to follow with Dowman.
