Mikel Arteta to finish Ben White's Arsenal career as new transfer update emerges

Arsenal could choose to move Ben White on as Mikel Arteta eyes a squad shape-up ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is already understood that the Gunners must sell at least one first-team player after splashing the cash last summer, signing the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres.

Some of these transfers have worked out more than others, but with Arteta's side currently sitting atop the Premier League table, the squad is working well together in tandem.

Arsenal's transfer plans will already be taking shape. Sadly for White, that could bring an end to his five-year stay at the Emirates Stadium, having arrived from Brighton on a £50million deal in 2021.

Much like Riccardo Calafiori, the 28-year-old has been extremely injury-prone over the last couple of seasons, playing just 26 games last season and 19 games so far this term.

Of course, Jurrien Timber has been the first-choice selection at right-back, but if the Gunners are going to continue challenging for multiple titles, they need more reliable squad depth.

It appears that Arteta is already planning ahead for more defensive reinforcements, and it could force White out the door once the summer transfer window rolls around.

According to The Telegraph's Luke Edwards (11 March), Arsenal are eyeing up a move for Newcastle United's Tino Livramento, who has already attracted interest from Man City.

While Livramento has his own injury issues, when the 23-year-old is fully fit, he is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, rarely even making a foul, let alone picking up cautions.

The former Chelsea academy talent does come with quite a hefty price tag, however, so the Gunners may have to sell more than one senior player to afford a deal for one of Eddie Howe's biggest talents.

It seems like a no-brainer move for Arteta and his team, but with the queue for his signature only getting longer as the summer window draws ever-closer, there is likely to be a massive battle.

He has recently returned from injury, playing the final 25 minutes against Barcelona in the Champions League, so there will be chances for the North London team to watch him in action before the summer.
