Viktor Gyokeres makes 'clear' decision about leaving Arsenal amid whispers
Viktor Gyokeres has made it clear to Arsenal that he will not push for a move away and hopes to stay and fight for his place.
The 28-year-old has started just two games so far this season and played just 29 minutes in the Premier League, leading to question marks about his role in Mikel Arteta's plans.
After a frustrating first season at the Emirates, the striker has lost his place in the starting XI to Kai Havertz, and it could be difficult for him to regain a starting role.
However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Gyokeres is prepared to step up to the challenge rather than seeking a move away from Arsenal.
The Gunners forked out a huge fee of £64million to land the striker last summer, and he is determined to prove his worth by working his way back into Arteta's plans.
After Havertz suffered an injury while on international duty with Germany, Gyokeres may be afforded an opportunity that he will have to grasp with both hands.
What has gone wrong for Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal?
Football Insider reported on 8 October that Gyokeres could still be a valuable asset for Arsenal, but there are concerns that Arteta's style is causing his problems.
The striker has continued to thrive on international duty with Sweden, for whom he has scored in four consecutive games, leading to suggestions that Arsenal are not the right fit.
However, rather than make excuses and look to move on in January, Gyokeres is determined to make something of his Arsenal career and prove himself to Arteta.
"If you look at things from the player's point of view, it's got to be a frustrating situation," Brown told Football Insider.
"Things haven't worked out for him, he's not the best fit for the style of play, but I also don't think he's going to give up that quickly and just look for a way out.
"He'll be determined to prove people wrong, prove he can play in this style, and prove he can still be a top-class striker in the Premier League.
"As far as bad spells for strikers go, I've seen far worse than Viktor Gyokeres, so he will feel he can still make a success of his Arsenal career and he will want to do that.
"I expect he has made that clear to Arsenal, that he doesn't want to look for a move away, he wants to play a part in the success they're having."
How do Arsenal feel about Gyokeres' future?
Despite Gyokeres being committed to a future at Arsenal, there is not so much certainty about the club's stance on his future, with many tipping him to move on.
His continued struggles at Arsenal have raised red flags, and his lack of regular playing time this season means he could be allowed to leave when the transfer window opens.
Brown warned Football Insider on 7 October that Arsenal are prepared to entertain offers for Gyokeres in the January transfer window as their doubts continue to grow.
Last season, the striker scored 21 goals in 55 appearances, but he has started just two games so far this term and has been pushed down the pecking order.
As a result, the Gunners could be prepared to listen to offers for Gyokeres in 2027, amid growing doubts about whether he has a long-term furure at the Emirates.
