Arsenal will move for an established senior goalkeeper if Aaron Ramsdale leaves the club before the 30 August transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed Mikel Arteta is planning to maintain healthy competition in the squad by signing another competent shot-stopper.

Sources say Espanyol ace Joan Garcia, who helped the club return to La Liga last term, is the top target at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are also scouring the market for alternatives as they plan for every eventuality in negotiations.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (19 August) that Arteta's side are ready to demand a loan fee of £6million to let goalkeeper Ramsdale leave the club.

Ajax, Nottingham Forest and Southampton are keen while it has been widely reported that Wolves have made an approach to land the England international on a temporary deal.

Arsenal set sights on Espanyol star Garcia to replace Ramsdale

Garcia could come in to replace Ramsdale and provide backup for first-choice goalkeeper David Raya if a deal can be reached between Arsenal and Espanyol.

The 23-year-old won the number one shirt at the Barcelona-based club in the 2023-24 campaign, making 21 appearances and keeping 12 clean sheets.

He has kept his place following promotion to La Liga and played in the opening weekend loss against Real Valladolid on Monday (19 August).

Ramsdale made just 11 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.

The five-cap England international, who is under contract at Arsenal until June 2026, wants to play regular first-team football away from the Emirates Stadium this term.
