'As a Rangers fan I'm thinking, oh no' - Exclusive: Alan Hutton reacts to Celtic transfer report

Alan Hutton admits he is worried as a Rangers fan after Celtic were linked with a move for Sheffield Wednesday hitman Jordan Rhodes.

The former Gers and Scotland full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, says he knows what a threat the 29-year-old can be and that he does not want the Hoops to have that sort of firepower up front.

The Scottish Sun report that the Bhoys are looking at signing Rhodes on loan to bolster their forward line and offer back up to first-choice hitman Odsonne Edouard.

Hutton says that Rhodes would be a terrific capture for Neil Lennon’s side should they snap him up and admits it would be a worry as a Rangers fan to see him head to Celtic Park.

“He scores goals wherever he’s been, I’ve played with him with Scotland and stuff and he’s an absolute goalscorer,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“I’m pretty sure he’d do the same were he to come up. It would probably be a great signing for Celtic if they can get a hold of somebody like that.

“It’s one of them as a Rangers fan I’m thinking: ‘Oh no, he’s going to score goals,’ but I think he’d be a good signing for them.”

Rhodes has struggled for game time at Sheffield Wednesday this season, his substitute appearance against Bristol City only his 10th outing across all competitions.

His three goals came as a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest earlier in December, in what was one of just two Championship starts this term.

In other Celtic news, Paul Robinson has urged the club to wrap up an international contract deal after the player lifted the lid on his future.
