Jonathan Kodjia’s agent has held talks with Fenerbahce, according to a report.

Turkish news outlet Fotospor claims that the Istanbul-based outfit has been in discussions with Arthur Poupel on Tuesday, who is the 27-year-old’s representative.

It is understood that Kodjia is available to move to teams in European competition for a season-long loan following Villa’s failure to be promoted to the Premier League and Fotospor reports that Fenerbahce would pay all of his wages if a temporary move was to materialise.

Fenerbahce are regular competitors in the Champions League but usually fail in the final qualifying round before the group stage.

Kodjia has been in hot form for Villa since his move from Bristol City last season and scored a large majority of their goals in what was an underwhelming Championship campaign.

The nines-times Ivory Coast international netted 19 times in 36 appearances for the West Midlands club but is currently expected to miss a lot of pre-season training after suffering a broken ankle towards the end of the season.

The striker has been a pivotal part in Steve Bruce’s plans and a massive gap would be in need of filling should he depart Villa Park.

Scott Hogan remains the only other reliable striker that is worthy of a first-team spot in Bruce’s squad, but he has really struggled to adapt to life in the claret and blue following his move from Brentford in January.

Football Insider Verdict

Kodjia has proved quite a lot this season and unfortunately for Aston Villa fans, one of the things he has shown he is capable of is playing at a higher level than he’s currently at. The attacker has been massively important to Bruce’s side and there’s no doubt that Villa would have finished a lot lower in the Championship standings without his goals. It’s a bit of a blunder if there’s this kind of clause in his contract because if they lose him on loan for a season it means it will be another year ran down on his deal without him providing anything for the Villans.
