By Matt Farr

Aston Villa have handed a professional contract to academy talent Alex Prosser, it has been revealed.

Prosser’s sister shared on her personal Twitter account on Wednesday that the Aston Villa youngster had agreed a new deal with the Championship club.

The images showed Prosser penning a deal at Villa Park while flanked by two people, although it is not known if they are family members or club employees.

The exciting academy prospect has been a regular performer for the Under 18 side at Villa Park this season, and the 18-year-old’s fresh deal sees the club retain the services of one of their best young talents.

Prosser operates as a defensive-midfielder with a physical presence, and could have a future role to play in the first team squad if is development continues on its current course.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce had earlier explained to the Birmingham Mail that he was determined to halt a trend that continues to see the city’s most promising talents seek challenges elsewhere.

But handing Prosser a deserved professional deal at the Midlands club is evidence of Bruce keeping his promise, and Aston Villa fans will no doubt be delighted.

A number of exciting academy products have already forced their way into the first team squad, including now-established trio Andre Green, Jack Grealish and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

Meanwhile, Keinan Davis and Corey Blackett-Taylor, who have both featured in Bruce’s matchday squad in recent weeks, also demonstrate the club’s continued faith in breeding youngsters for the first team.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, Bruce has revealed what the club are set to do in the summer transfer market.
