Aston Villa attacking ace set to miss Blackburn clash

By Amir Mir

Jordan Ayew will miss Aston Villa’s Championship clash against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon, after picking up his fifth yellow card in the 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.

Forward Ayew picked up his fifth booking of the season at St Andrews on Sunday afternoon when he fouled Stephen Gleeson in the second-half, as confirmed by the Birmingham Mail.

The 25-year-old was replaced by the returning Gabby Agbonlahor in the 81st minute, as goals from Gary Gardner and David Davis shared the spoils in a toxic derby environment.

Ayew has picked up yellow cards against Rotherham, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest, Birmingham and Luton Town in the EFL Cup in August.

The Ghana international has played 14 games in all competitions for the Midlands giants this term, scoring three goals and supplying three assists.

He scored a late penalty against Reading in mid-October to help manager Steve Bruce record his first win as manager and Villa’s first away win since August 2015.

Winger Jack Grealish could replace Ayew in the starting XI for the weekend fixture at Villa Park, as he returns from his own three-match suspension.
