Aston Villa could complete bargain Nketiah signing after 'great' update - Phillips
Kevin Phillips has claimed Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah would be “a great signing” for Aston Villa despite the club’s embarrassment of riches in attack.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Claret and Blue said Steven Gerrard’s side are likely targeting the 22-year-old because he’s “available on the cheap.”
Nketiah has entered the final six months of his contract at Arsenal and appears destined to leave the Emirates.
According to The Athletic‘s Gregg Evans (20 January), Villa are considering a move for the former England under-21 international.
Gerrard already has Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings at his disposal at Villa Park, while the club have high hopes for 20-year-old Cameron Archer.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Villa potentially signing, Philips said:

“I think the reason they’re interested is because financially it’s a deal that makes sense. He’s going to be available on the cheap.
“Danny Ings started on the bench yesterday. Do they need Nketiah? If they bring him in there’s even more competition for places.
“Are they going to play with a two up top? It isn’t Stevie’s favoured system.
“I think it’s a case of, he’s got six months left, can we get him through the door on the cheap. Nketiah is a quality player who can play out wide and play down the middle. It could turn out to be a brilliant signing for Villa.”
