Aston Villa are hopeful of re-signing Tammy Abraham this January transfer window.

The former England international was on loan at Villa Park during the 2018-19 campaign, where he helped the Birmingham outfit win promotion to the Premier League after scoring 26 goals in all competitions.

After eventually falling out of favour at Chelsea, the striker moved to Roma in 2021 permanently and is now on loan to Besiktas.

In Turkey, the 28-year-old has been an instant hit, which has resulted in Abraham being linked to numerous Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa.

While Ollie Watkins has now hit form at Villa Park, the striker has proven to be inconsistent throughout most of the season.

Therefore, according to Sky Sports on 15 January, tentative discussions have begun for Villa to acquire Abraham.

  • Abraham was on loan to Aston Villa in the 2018-19 campaign
  • He has since returned to Chelsea, moved to Roma and gone on loan to AC Milan and Besiktas
  • Now, Abraham is linked with an Aston Villa return

This comes as Villa prepare to let Donyell Malen depart. The attacker is set to go on loan to Roma and is in the Italian capital to complete a medical.

It is believed that Besiktas have now met the requirements to make the striker’s loan a permanent one. Therefore, they will need a replacement if the 28-year-old departs.

One potential plan for the Turkish side is to sign Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca. The Italy international is currently a Nottingham Forest target. Therefore, the East Midlands side’s plans could be potentially derailed by Villa’s transfer activity.

Is Abraham still good?

Abraham had been on fire for Roma until he tore his ACL at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

While this may have led to him falling out of Roma’s plans, the striker is still very capable.

According to Fotmob on 16 January, the striker’s attacking stats this campaign are wonderful.

In the Super Lig, he is averaging 0.54 goals, a 0.62 xG and 1.16 shots on target per game.

Therefore, it is evident that the former England international is still a capable goalscorer.

Now, it remains to be seen if Villa are able to acquire the striker before the end of the January transfer window.
