Aston Villa could seal 'massive' Jones signing after reliable journalist update - Phillips
Kevin Phillips has claimed the signing of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones would be a “big coup” for Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Claret and Blue striker said the 20-year-old’s ball carrying ability would help fill the void left by Jack Grealish’s departure.
According to Alan Nixon (August 29th), Villa hold a “big interest” in the attacking midfielder and could launch a £15million move in 2022.
Jones enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in 2020-21 and contributed four goals and five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions.
His performances earned high praise from Gary Lineker on Twitter, who predicted the Englishman to develop into “a helluva player”.
A product of Liverpool’s academy, Jones has four years remaining on his contract at Anfield.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the interest, Phillips said:
“It would be a big coup if they can get a player like Jones out of that Liverpool side.
“He performed in that team last season so he would be a massive signing for Dean Smith and the supporters.
“Jones certainly has a lot of quality. He has played in big games for a big club so he would not be overawed by a move.
“It would be a really exciting signing for the fans because it is probably an area they would like to see another player come in.
“He has similar attributes to Grealish. Every team in the Premier League wants a ball carrying midfielder and he is certainly a player that can do that.”
