Aston Villa could sell Bertrand Traore to sign Rangers star Steven Gerrard called a 'top player' - Hutton
Alan Hutton has suggested Steven Gerrard could sanction the sale of Bertrand Traore to bring Joe Aribo from Rangers to Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers and Villa star insisted Traore, 26, has had “umpteen opportunities” to make the grade.
The Scottish Sun claim (14 May) that Villa have joined Crystal Palace in the race to sign Aribo from Rangers this summer.
The 25-year-old was a firm favourite under Gerrard during their time at Ibrox together.
Speaking to Rangers TV in May 2021, the Villa boss branded Aribo a “top player” and singled out his versatility.
Hutton suggested that ability to play in numerous positions would make the midfielder a success at Villa Park.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Gerrard’s been evaluating his squad this year. I think he’ll make improvements in the summer and he’ll really try and kick on.
“Aribo is very much the profile of some of the players that are already there. It’s going to be difficult.
“I think what Steven Gerrard will do is probably move some out of the squad, the likes of Bertrand Traore. These kinds of guys have had umpteen opportunities and it’s not worked out.
“It might free up some space in those wide areas where he can operate. I think what he does give you is that versatility. He can play all along the front, he can play in midfield. He’s that type of player.
“Obviously Steven Gerrard knows him inside out, knows what he’s capable of, what level he can play at.
“I’m pretty sure if he did go down to Villa, they’re obviously my other team, he would do well.”
Aribo made 112 appearances under Gerrard at Ibrox.
He scored 20 goals and contributed 18 assists during their time together.
