Aston Villa could 'steal' Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after latest from source - Campbell

Aston Villa would be “stealing” Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool for the price of £10million, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the 28-year-old would be “a great signing” who would “fit into Steven Gerrard’s system.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Anfield and an extension appears unlikely.

A recruitment source told Football Insider (11 June) that Villa are interested in signing the centre-midfielder from the Reds this summer.

According to talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook (10 June), Liverpool would be willing to accept a knockdown fee of just £10million for the ex-Arsenal star.

Man United have also been credited with an interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain.

When asked by Football Insider if the midfielder’s injury record should be a concern for potential suitors, Campbell said: “I mean £10million is a steal for somebody like the Ox.

“His problem is game time. Yes, he has had his injury problems but even when he is fit he is not playing. That has been the real difficulty for him.

“I think he’d get opportunities at Aston Villa, I really do. I could see him fitting into that Steven Gerrard system.

“He will be hungry to play and prove himself again. I think that would be a great signing for Villa especially for £10million. I really think that would be a steal in the grand scheme of things.”
