Remi Garde is set to be joined through the Aston Villa exit door by Paddy Riley, the club’s head of recruitment.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that the senior pair will be axed within days as the Midlands club continue their radical restructuring of the football staff.

The decision to dismiss Garde was made at the start of the international break but has been delayed due to protracted negotiations over the Frenchman’s compensation payout.

Villa’s new-look board, led by chairman Steve Hollis and director David Bernstein, will continue talks over a settlement as all parties aim to reach a swift agreement.

Garde accepts his Villa tenure is over after a dreadful run of results during his disastrous five-month tenure.

But the Frenchman is not the only senior employee who has paid the price for a season that will inevitably end in relegation to the Championship.

Chief executive Tom Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt have already lost their jobs, and Riley is set to join them through the exit door following an investigation into the club’s set-up.

Riley is responsible for appointing and overseeing Villa’s scouting network, which has recommended a series of players who have struggled to make an impact for the team this season.
