Aston Villa fans were ecstatic on Twitter to learn that Paddy Riley has been sacked as head of scouting and recruitment.
The Birmingham Mail claim that newly appointed technical director Steve Round told Riley to leave his role at the club.
Riley was reported to be behind many of the £50 million signings for the summer of 2015, when the Midlands club were relegated into the Championship by picking up only three wins all season.
Many were pleased to hear the news of his sacking, as supporters see it as the end of the old regime which was run by the much-criticised Randy Lerner.
Villa’s new chief Tony Xia and new technical director Steve Round were applauded by supporters for getting rid of Riley.

But, one supporter did question why it took so long for Riley to be sacked, with the fan stating that he should have left as soon as Xia purchased the club.
