Aston Villa defender Aly Cissokho is closing in on a loan move to Greek side Olympiacos – and fans on Twitter have provided mixed views.
French publication Mercato 365 claim the left-back will undergo a medical with the Superleague leaders and the deal is set to be sealed at the start of next week.
It is said that Cissoko, 29, will join initially on loan until the end of the season, although the transfer will include an option for Olympiakos to buy him permanently.
First-choice left-back Jordan Amavi was ahead of Cissokho in the Villa Park pecking order last season in the Premier League which led to Cissokho’s loan move to Porto.
But a season-ending injury to Tim Sherwood’s summer signing led to Cissokho being called back to the Midlands in January 2016 by then-manager Remi Garde.
The former Valencia man has since been ahead of Amavi, most notably under former manager Roberto Di Matteo at the start of this Championship season.
But since he gave away two penalties in back-to-back games in October, Steve Bruce has opted to use Amavi as his number one defender.
However, Bruce’s decision to let the Frenchman leave for Greece has been criticised by supporters as Villa don’t have another specialist left-back.
But others were pleased to see Cissokho leave as one fan urged others to follow him through the door.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Gestede gone. Gollini gone. Cissokho almost gone. Now if we could just get rid of pretty much the rest of the squad that would be ace

if they're paying his wages I guess but no lb cover I hope it means we're bringing one in.

Why are we letting Cissokho go out on loan?? This one baffles me, especially when Amavi is in poor form.

+ if Hutton were to get injured, Amavi can play right back – meaning Cissokho would've been perfect cover. Nevermind

Cissokho has played 12 Championship games this season, supplying one assist for his side with his last appearance coming in October during the 2-1 win at Reading.
