Ashley Westwood has been dropped from the Aston Villa starting XI for their clash against Barnsley on Tuesday night – and supporters were overjoyed on Twitter that he had finally been axed.
Midfielder Westwood has started every league game for manager Roberto Di Matteo this term, but the Italian has benched the 26-year-old for 21-year-old Aaron Tshibola.
Supporters were pleased with the change and expressed their happiness at the Villa line-up as they take on the Yorkshire outfit Barnsley at Oakwell.
One fan stated that with Westwood being dropped it had made his night, with Di Matteo seemingly opting for a 4-2-3-1 formation.
The Midlands manager has decided to go with midfield duo Mile Jedinak, and Tshibola, with the latter coming off the bench against Newcastle on Saturday and scoring a late equaliser.
But one fan was of the opinion that he would have dropped Australian Jedinak instead, as his performance at the weekend was woeful.
Overall, the majority of Villa supporters saw the positive of Westwood being dropped.
Here is a selection of messages on Twitter from Villa fans reacting to Westwood being dropped:

In other Aston Villa team news, Martin O’Neill would have done this to Jack Grealish.
