Aston Villa fans react to report senior player has gone AWOL for three weeks

By Harry Sykes

Ross McCormack has reportedly not turned up to Nottingham Forest’s training ground for three weeks – and Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to express sympathy for their loaned-out striker.

The Telegraph claim the 30-year-old striker, who temporarily joined Forest in the January transfer window, has been unavailable for the team’s relegation battle due to “personal issues”.

It is said that McCormack had been struggling with an Achilles problem but has failed to report for treatment with either his current side or his parent club, and was recently spotted in Glasgow, 300 miles away from Forest’s training ground.

The Scotland international struggled at Villa in the first half of the season following his £12million transfer from Fulham and had a public bust-up with Steve Bruce after skipping training due to faulty gates at his mansion.

Nevertheless, fans of the Midlands giants have not been overly critical of the Scotland international on social media and have indeed expressed sympathy if the player, as it appears, is suffering from personal and health problems.

The Villa faithful urged the club to offer their support to McCormack and help him through a troubled period.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The Telegraph report that Forest are paying a large chunk of the player’s £48,000-a-week wages during his loan spell and that Villa will look to sell him in the summer.

Since his move to the City Ground, McCormack has played seven matches for the relegation-threatened side, and scored only one goal.

He has not featured in Mark Warburton’s match-day squad since the 2-2 draw with Derby on 18 March.

Forest’s defeat at Cardiff on Easter Monday left them just one point above the bottom three, ahead of Saturday’s home game against Reading.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, talks are to get underway as a proven Premier League performer wants to join the Midlands club.
