Aston Villa are set to be offered the chance to sign Leicester City star Jannik Vestergaard in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa are in the market for a new centre-back as they look to reshape their defensive roster in the winter window.

Leicester are willing to listen to offers for Vestergaard after his potential summer move to Fulham collapsed at the eleventh hour.

That was a setback not only for the Cottagers but also to Leicester, who were trying to raise funds for their own signings.

Villa will be given the chance to sign the Denmark international, although it remains to be seen if Unai Emery is interested.

The Midlands giants are likely to be without big-money summer signing Diego Carlos for the rest of the season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Vestergaard remains way down the pecking order at the Foxes, with Wout Faes and Daniel Amartey the first choice pairing before the World Cup break.

Brendan Rodgers is likely to stick with them at centre-back after Leicester won four of their last five Premier League matches. He can also call upon Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu.

Vestergaard, who joined Leicester last summer (2021) for £15million, made just six league starts in the 2021-22 campaign.

He has made only two Foxes appearances this season, both of which came in the League Cup against lower-league opposition.

Vestergaard has amassed 82 appearances in the English top flight following his arrival at Southampton in 2018.
