Aston Villa are set to miss out on top striker target Leonardo Ulloa with Brighton in talks with the Leicester forward, Football Insider sources understand.
Villa have been chasing Ulloa’s signature throughout this month with Steve Bruce hoping to bring the Argentine to Villa Park on a loan deal.
However, Brighton appear to have stolen a march on Villa in the race to sign Ulloa after agreeing a deal with Leicester for their former player.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Ulloa has been given permission to travel to Brighton to hold talks about a possible return to the Amex Stadium.
Ulloa spent 18 months at Brighton when he first arrived in England in January 2013 from Spanish side Almeria.
The 31-year-old scored 23 goals in 50 appearances for Brighton before leaving for Leicester in the summer of 2014.
Ulloa has found first-team opportunities hard to come back this season and he has not started a single Premier League game this term.
The South American is keen to move on in search of regular first-team football and Brighton are ready to offer him that chance with Chris Hughton looking to add more goals to his side.
