Hutton: Traore has indicated Aston Villa 'big signings' imminent

Bertrand Traore’s upturn in form towards the end of the season was because he knows Aston Villa are planning a summer spending spree.

That is according to ex-Villa Park favourite Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old right-winger’s strong end to the campaign.

The 57-cap Burkina Faso international netted twice and laid on three assists in his last six outings for Villa.

Football Insider understands that the club have set their sights on signing two top-class wide-forwards this summer.

And Hutton insists that the threat of competition for places at Villa next season has sparked the mercurial Traore into life.

“I think he’s definitely finished the season strongly,” he told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“He’s put in some really good performances. It’s the only thing I questioned at times, his inconsistency. We knew he could be brilliant but then go missing a little bit.

“Whether that’s when Jack is out of the team and he doesn’t have that supply line alongside him, we’ll have to wait and see. But he’s definitely stepped up.

“Him and Anwar have scored some important goals of late. I think they know there will be competition and big signings coming in the summer. That’s definitely part of it.”

Aston Villa paid Lyon £17million for Traore in the summer and the former Chelsea forward signed a four-year deal.

He has featured 29 times for Villa in the league this season, scoring seven and assisting another seven.
