Aston Villa are among a host of clubs in the hunt to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who wants to exit Old Trafford at the end of the season, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that Arsenal and clubs from abroad are interested in signing the 21-year-old, who has been in great form while on loan at Shrewsbury in League One this season.
Henderson’s clean sheet record has been brilliant for the high-flying Shropshire club, shutting out his opponents 16 times in 39 appearances across all competitions.
The “highly-rated” shot-stopper’s form has seen him earn his first cap for England Under-21s during the recent international break.
It is understood that he wants to leave Man United in the summer in search of regular first-team football and it may be something he would get at Villa Park with Sam Johnstone’s loan deal due to expire in the next couple of months.
Football Insider verdict
It seems that Steve Bruce has a keen eye on transfers already, even though it is not yet confirmed which division Villa will be playing in next term. If they get promoted then they should be setting their sights on a better, more proven goalkeeper than Henderson. If they do not go up, the 21-year-old would be a great replacement for Johnstone if his loan deal is not made into a permanent one. Johnstone has another year left on his deal at Old Trafford whereas Henderson would be available as a free agent. That would save a lot of money for the Villains, who are treading carefully due to Financial Fair Play.
