Aston Villa land £30m windfall after Europa League win vs Nottingham Forest
Aston Villa have landed more than £30million in prize money after reaching the Europa League final.
The Premier League club have enjoyed a strong European campaign after finishing second in the competition’s league phase.
Villa then went on to beat Lille and Bologna in the last 16 and quarter-finals, setting up a semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest.
Unai Emery’s side suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at the City Ground, but they turned things around in the reverse fixture at Villa Park on Thursday (7 May), securing an emphatic 4-0 victory.
Villa will now face Freiburg in the final at the Tupras Stadium in Istanbul later this month.

In terms of how the numbers break down, each team will receive a guaranteed £3.8m for playing in the Europa League this season.
Meanwhile, Swiss Ramble reported Villa would earn £7.8m from Uefa’s value pillar system, which is split into European and non-European segments based on their coefficient ranking and the market pool.

Clubs were awarded £392,000 for each win in the league phase, meaning Emery’s side banked just over £2.7m after claiming seven victories from their eight fixtures.
Each team competing in the Europa League also earned an additional amount based on their individual ranking in the league phase, with Villa landing just under £2.3m for finishing as runners-up and a further £523k for coming in the top eight.
Qualifying automatically for the last 16 was worth £1.5m, while progressing through to the semi-finals added £5.8m to their total.
The West Midlands giants have now landed an extra £6.1m for reaching the final following their victory over Forest, taking their prize money to just under £31m.
If they can overcome Freiburg, Villa will earn a further £5.2m for winning the Europa League, while they will bank £3.5m for participating in the Super Cup.

Villa’s form in the Premier League has slipped in recent weeks after focusing on the Europa League.
Emery’s side faced criticism for their performance against struggling Tottenham last weekend, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park.
However, the Villans are still on course to qualify for the Champions League via their fifth-place position in the Premier League table.
They can all but secure a top-five finish with a victory against already-relegated Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday (10 May).
