Aston Villa lodge bid for sought-after striker - report

Aston Villa have submitted a formal bid for Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia, according to a report.

France Football claim Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has made a move for the sought-after front man although the specific figure is not disclosed.

It is said the 26-year-old striker who is attracting interest from Derby, Sunderland, Stoke and Villarreal.

The Midlands outfit have moved for Kodjia after Di Matteo made it clear he is in the market for a new striker.

Villa have reportedly received an £8million offer for striker Jordan Ayew although owner Tony Xia has insisted he will not be sold this summer.

Ivory Coast international Kodija signed from French side Angers for a fee of £2. million last summer and went on to score 20 goals in his debut season as Lee Johnson’s men comfortably survived relegation.

According to the Bristol Post, the French-born attacker has two-years remaining on his City contract with an option of a further 12 months.

Villa have signed three new players this summer with Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick signing for a fee of £3million, goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini joining for £4.1million and Aaron Tshibola transferring for £5million.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, Roberto Di Matteo will battle it out with a Championship rival for this European stalwart.
