Sources: Aston Villa willing to listen to offers for 'whinging' John McGinn

Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for John McGinn this summer, Football Insider understands.

The midfielder has been linked with Tottenham in recent weeks as well as clubs including Man United in previous windows.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that McGinn is far from an untouchable despite being a nailed-on starter during his four years at the club.

Steven Gerrard is said to be not totally convinced by the Scotland international, 27, and would consider top-tier offers.

The source explained that McGinn is not regarded as the easiest player to manage and is always “whinging” behind the scenes.

Furthermore, the newly-appointed QPR manager Michael Beale was said to have had tense relationships with a number of senior Villa stars – McGinn among them – last season.

Question marks over the midfield kingpin’s future will come as a surprise to many Villa fans, who have come to regard him as an instrumental player in the side during their three seasons back in the Premier League.

He started 35 Premier League matches among 36 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists from central midfield.

In 147 matches for Villa, McGinn has scored an impressive 16 goals, many of them memorable strikes, as well as laid on 23 assists.

Villa have already signed one midfielder this summer, with Boubacar Kamara joining from Marseille on a free transfer.
