Aston Villa midfielder admits that he is unsure where his future lies

By Will Butcher

Aston Villa loanee Carles Gil has revealed that he could return to the Midlands despite being on loan with Deportivo La Coruna.

Twinkle-toed midfielder Gil failed to sparkle at Villa Park, with injury interrupting his run in the side.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, Gil revealed he is unsure of what the future holds but is not giving it much thought as he looks to help Deportivo remain in La Liga this season.

“Who knows if I go back there,” Gil said. “If I stay in England, If I move permanently here – in football you never know. I do not think ahead, I focus on the here and now.

“I do not regret anything in life, whether it goes well or goes wrong; it is what I felt at that moment.”

Gil moved to Villa Park in January 2015 for £3.2million after failing to break into a Valencia side that was beaming with talent.

Just three goals in 34 league and cup appearances though has left Gil’s career in tatters. The 5ft 7in dynamo is looking to reignite his career with Deportivo, and has made three appearances so far this season.

Gil, who turns 24 at the end of the month, still has three years remaining on his Villa Park deal and could be in line for a return if a permanent move to Spain does not materialise.

In other Aston Villa news, Steve Bruce has finally got his man after tracking him for weeks.
