Aston Villa are braced for a bid from Burnley for midfielder Ashley Westwood, according to a report.

Football Insider reported last month that the Lancashire club had made an enquiry for the Englishman.

The Birmingham Mail claim sources close to Turf Moor are set to test Villa’s resolve with a £6m bid for the 26-year-old.

The former Crewe man is currently earning in the region of £35,000-a-week and the Turf Moor club are understood to want Westwood to take a cut on these wages in order to join the club.

Burnley made an immediate return to the Premier League in the recently completed season as they topped the Championship after suffering relegation in the 2014-15 season.

They are now looking for experienced top flight players so that they don't suffer the same fate as they did a year a go.

Westwood joined Villa in a £2million move from Crewe in 2013 and signed a new five-year-deal last August.

During the 2015-16 season the combative midfielder starred in 37 fixtures across all competitions, but he was unable to help the Villains fight off relegation.
