Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner has been in the form of his life over the past couple of weeks at Barnsley.
The 25-year-old has spent pretty much the entire season on loan at Oakwell, but his temporary spell in Yorkshire has only just kicked off in the last few weeks as Barnsley look to avoid relegation from the Championship.
Gardner and his team-mates have been fighting for their lives to avoid dropping into League One and that perilous situation seems to have sparked the Villa midfielder into life with just a handful of games to play.
His form may even see Birmingham relegated, so there’s no doubt that Villa fans will be urging him on to help Barnsley stay up.
However once Garnder’s loan ends at Barnsley he will return to a Villa side that has massively improved since leaving them on a temporary basis last year.
Even though he has scored two goals in his last three Championship outings for the Tykes, the Solihull-born midfielder is simply nowhere near the quality of other players in his position at Villa Park and Steve Bruce has to discard him when the transfer window opens.
Gardner still has another two years left on his contract with the West Midlands club and there’s simply not point in taking him for a ride when he is not able to play for a team that will either be fighting for promotion from the second-tier, or in the Premier League.
