Sources: Aston Villa turn attention to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain amid 'huge' claim
Aston Villa have turned their attention to signing Liverpool star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Football Insider understands.
The Merseyside giants are willing to cash in on the versatile midfielder this summer now he is about to enter the last 12 months of his contract.
A Villa source has told Football Insider that Steven Gerrard is a “huge” admirer of Oxlade-Chamberlain, 28, and has made him a top priority in the remainder of the window.
The big-spending Midlands outfit face strong competition for the Liverpool star’s services.
But they believe their ambitions, financial power and the lure of Anfield legend Gerrard could help propel them into pole position to secure a deal.
Intriguingly, the Villa boss wants to use Oxlade-Chamberlain in an attacking role that can make use of his ability to score and create goals.

At Liverpool, he has been used in a variety of roles, include wide on both flanks as well as in number eight or number 10 positions.
Villa have made a busy start to the transfer window, signing Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos, as well as converting Philippe Coutinho’s loan from Barcelona into a permanent deal.
Oxlade-Chamberlain would also cost a significant fee, although his contract position means he will be around half of the £22million asking price clubs were quoted last year.
He has dropped down the pecking order at Anfield in recent times and had a total of 1526 minutes from his 29 appearances in all competitions in 2021-22.
Those matches yielded three goals and three assists for the former Arsenal star.
