Hutton 'excited' as Aston Villa reportedly in pole position to sign McNeil
Dwight McNeil would be “something a little bit different” at Aston Villa and represents “exciting times” ahead.
That is according to ex-Villa Park favourite Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 21-year-old Burnley winger.
This site revealed on 6th July that Villa would pursue McNeil if they failed to lure Emile Smith Rowe, after first revealing their interest in him on 29 April.
The Liverpool Echo reported on 19th July that Villa have now moved into pole position ahead of Everton to sign the winger for a potential £25million.
McNeil, who is under contract at Turf Moor until 2024, has missed just two top-flight fixtures over the past two seasons.
Hutton claimed that the experienced McNeil’s arrival at Villa Park could mean Jack Grealish moves into a more central role.

“It’s a good price,” he told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“I’m pretty sure Burnley slapped a massive figure on him last season so it’s obviously come down quite a bit.
“He’s an experienced player, plays most games and can create opportunities. He likes staying out wide and taking people on and getting crosses into the box.
“He’d be something a little bit different for Villa, a left-footer playing on the left and putting balls into the area.
“It all depends on Grealish, doesn’t it? If Jack’s there, he’s going to play, simple as that.
“Grealish likes playing on the left, so does he move inside? There are lots of ifs and buts. But it’s exciting times.
“I think he’s the perfect type of player to go for. He’s young and already experienced in the Premier League and he’s only going to get better. It ticks all the boxes.“
