'Shocker', 'Total farce' - Aston Villa fans fume at first-half display of one man v Bolton

Aston Villa went in 1-0 down at the break against Bolton Wanderers away at the Macron Stadium in the Saturday evening kick-off in the Championship, and fans are not happy at the display of Birkir Bjarnason.

It was a must-win game for the Villans following the manner of their 3-1 defeat to QPR earlier in the week and the fact that Fulham had pushed them down to fourth in the table.

Form was very much with Steve Bruce’s side as Phil Parkinson’s men had won only one of their last five league outings going into the game.

With Cardiff City flying in the league but not playing until Sunday, it was an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the table.

It was a tough opening 45 minutes in snowy conditions which made it difficult to see the ball at times, Bruce’s team struggled to settle and find any rhythm against the Lancashire outfit.

And it was no real surprise to see Adam Le Fondre take the lead for the Whites from a corner in the 19th minute after some poor marking on the set-piece.

Lewis Grabban should have levelled for the Villans when Jack Grealish found the forward in the box, but the loanee could only fire high and wide.

Supporters were not happy with the performance of Birkir Bjarnason who they felt went missing at the goal and was poor all round.

This is what Villa fans had to say about the Icelandic’s display in the first-half against Wanderers:
