Aston Villa have tabled a £9million bid for forward Bas Dost from Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg, according to a report.
Goal.com claim that Villa have tabled a bid and are in competition with Newcastle to sign the 27-year-old striker.
HITC Sport claimed on Monday morning that that the former Heerenveen goal-getter could be persuaded to drop to the second tier of English football, and said Newcastle were talking to his club about a transfer.
The report also claims that Premier league trio West Ham, Everton and Champions Leicester are keen on Dost, who is known for his impressive aerial prowess.
The goal machine has 125 professional goals to his name in 279 league and cup encounters, with 48 coming for Wolfsburg.
Dost struggled to make an impact last term, making 30 starts in league and cup encounters. The forward scored 10 goals, with one strike coming in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven.
Dost’s rise to prominence came the season before, where he scored an impressive 20 goals in 36 appearances, adding eight assists.
However, a broken metatarsal kept Dost out for around four months last term after Christmas, and the recent signing of Germany star Mario Gomez has pushed Wolfsburg’s number 12 down the pecking order.
Aston Villa have already signed Ross McCormack this summer in a bid to build a side fit for promotion.
