Aston Villa tipped to complete cut-price Tuanzebe deal after Romano's '100%' reveal - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Aston Villa could sign Axel Tuanzebe for a cut-price if Manchester United complete the signing of Raphael Varane.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted now is the right time for Tuanzebe to quit Old Trafford for the sake of his own career.

Football Insider revealed on 5 July that Aston Villa had been given encouragement that United will let the 23-year-old leave if they can find a replacement.

Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday (26 July) Raphael Varane’s move to Man United from Real Madrid is “100 per cent done” and he will be unveiled next week.

Asked whether that could open the door for Villa to move for Tuanzebe, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Definitely.

“For the sake of his own career, he has to leave. He’s been there for too long now and not got a starting place, he plays the odd game.

“Sometimes you need to leave a big club, go and play and have a career. I’m sure that’s something Axel’s thinking about now with Varane coming in. There’s [Victor] Lindelof and [Eric] Bailly still there so he’s going to be fifth-choice centre-back.

“For me, it’s definitely something that Aston Villa can try and get done. I’m sure they can get a lesser fee because Manchester United will want to get him out of the club if he’s not going to play.”

Tuanzebe has played 35 times for Aston Villa across two previous loan spells.

He was part of the side that earned promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in the 2018-19 season.

In other news, there has been a big update on Aston Villa and Everton’s race to sign Dwight McNeil.
